Bold New World

New Zealand wine has a similar success story. It is one of the premier “New World” wine-growing nations. Its temperate maritime climate and diverse growing regions have allowed a great range of grape varieties to thrive.

Sets the Standard

New Zealand’s Sauvignon Blanc, for example is thought by many to set the standard for this varietal. New Zealand has found success with many of the same grapes for which Australia has become known such as Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Merlot blends.

Regions

New Zealand’s 10 wine-growing regions span the length of the entire country: from the warm, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards of Northland (on the Northern tip of the North Island), to the delicate Pinot Noirs from Central Otago, down the bottom of the South Island.

Top Drops

Situated on the North-east of the South Island, Marlborough, is New Zealand’s best known wine-growing region. Known best for its Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough also produces renowned Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling. Marlborough is home to some of New Zealand’s top wineries such as Oyster Bay, Villa Maria, Pernod Ricard, Nobilo and Sacred Hill.
