I first tasted affogato in Florence several years ago and I instantly fell in love with its simplicity. As soon as I got back to Sydney I sought the ice-cream dessert out at my local Italian trattoria to get another fix.
Affogato is simply a scoop of ice-cream or gelato topped with a shot of freshly brewed espresso.
These days I just make my own mocha affogato using my favorite Movenpick dark chocolate ice-cream. It’s become a firm favorite and literally takes about five minutes to prepare. Affogatto is usually served with vanilla ice-cream but I prefer the intensity of the chocolate. Caramel ice-cream would also pair well.
